Carmon Baker is an energetic, organized, and motivated college student pursuing a career in Spanish and journalism.

About Me

Hi everyone, and welcome to my website! My name is Carmon Baker, and I am a junior at Drake University studying Multimedia Journalism and Spanish with minors in Sociology and Magazine & Brand Media. I will be graduating in May 2025 and plan to take a gap year before pursuing a master’s degree.

At Drake, I am involved in several student organizations. I am currently the Vice President of Operations of Kappa Alpha Theta, a social sorority, and I have also served as Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and have held numerous committee positions.

I am also the Breaking News Editor of The Times-Delphic, Drake’s student newspaper. Through this position, I have had the opportunity to write numerous stories for the newspaper, including breaking news, general news, features, and commentary. I am also a member of the Adams Leadership Institute and the Honors Program at Drake.

One of my biggest passions is traveling. After spending a semester abroad in Seville, Spain, I have become eager to travel the world and experience different cultures. I have been taking Spanish classes for over ten years and am conversationally fluent. Being able to travel in Spanish-speaking countries has given me the amazing opportunity to further develop my language skills. In Seville, I also had the opportunity to student teach as an English teacher. This was an amazing opportunity, and it is my goal to move back to Spain to earn a master’s degree in teaching English as a foreign language and teach there long-term.

Professional Experience

I am currently working two jobs, both of which have provided me with significant professional experience.

I am employed as the PR Intern for Iowa Resource for International Services (IRIS). Within this position, my responsibilities include creating and publishing social media content, writing monthly newsletters, drafting award nominations, and more. This has been a great opportunity to work for a localized organization and has combined my passion for international learning with my journalism skills.

I am also a Student Ambassador for the Drake University Office of Admissions. Within this position, I give tours to prospective students and families, and I work at the front desk. This position has been an invaluable experience because it has taught me so much about organization. Especially as someone who tends to be more introverted, being able to interact with so many different people within this position has taught me a lot about interpersonal communications and working relationships.
